The future of food is here. Its name is Bella Pupa.
Bella Pupa transforms silkworms into a nutritious snack food so delicious it will turn everything you know about edible insects on its head.
Silkworm is a wonder food ingredient. They’re packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, aminoacids, and fibers. Academic research shows that it also has positive effects on our blood sugar and pressure.
Compared to pork and chicken, silkworm has twice as many essential amino-acids. It has double the protein and iron than found in an egg or beef, more than 10 times the zinc and magnesium values than milk, and similar values of calcium and selenium.
If we want to get fiber from vegetables like broccoli or tomato, we need to consume more than the double in comparison with the value we can get from silkworm powder. Silkworms are also rich in vitamins A, E, C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B7, B9, abundant fatty acid included omega-3, 6 and 9.
Bella Pupa contains a lot of silkworm powder (26%), which increases the benefits in terms of nutrition.
It’s also yummy!
For optimal taste, Bugsolutely engaged MILL, a premium food design company, in a disciplined design process of consumer research. Four rounds of trials involving 48 prototypes and tasting by consumer panels were conducted. R&D lead to delicious flavors like Fine Italian Herbs, Smoky Cumin, Salt and Vinegar.
Good for the environment
Silkworms are very sustainable! They are a by-product of the silk industry (500,000 tons per year in China). Also, compared to cattle meat, these insects offer a much more efficient source of protein as they require less land, water, and food resources. Silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves, coming from the same trees in a perfect cycle.
